Borthis was a Human male Sith Lord who was a member of the Brotherhood of Darkness who served as an instructor at the Sith Academy on Korriban alongside Hezzoran, Kas'im, Orilltha, Shenayag, and Qordis. As Skere Kaan called for all the Sith to Ruusan to destroy the Army of Light, Borthis also went there to join them. On Ruusan, he was killed when Kaan activated the Thought Bomb and remained trapped there as a spirit.

During the New Sith Wars, Borthis served as an instructor at the Sith Academy on Korriban. Along with LaTor, Shenayag, Qordis, Orilltha, Kopecz and Kas'im, the Sith Lords were called away from Korriban to meet with Kaan, Dark Lord of the Sith. Knowing that the sith fought against each other for power, the Dark Lord swore any sith would be titled as Dark Lord and fight together against the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order. The Sith agreed to their new leader, and Borthis was titled as Dark Lord, along with the other sith. After the waging campaigns ended, the Sith began to form the Brotherhood of Darkness and spread across the galaxy against their enemies.

During the Seventh Battle of Ruusan, Borthis and the remaining were forced to retreat to the Ruusan caves to meet with Lord Kaan and LaTor. They witnessed the creation of the thought bomb, a powerful ritual that focuses the willpower of the dark side of the Force. Kaan promised to his followers that they would be immune to the thought bomb's effect, and the radius would kill only the Jedi. The Sith followed Kaan's guidance, but they were deceived. When the Army of Light entered the cave, the sith made their final encounter against the jedi and fought until Lord Kaan activated the thought bomb, wiping out all nearby Sith and Jedi, killing Githany. The trapped sith spirits remained in the force nexus for all eternity, and they would never escape. Kaan's spirit was the only who left the prison since he was the one who activated the bomb which caused him to flee. Borthis and the spirits were deceived by Kaan's power, and were used until the end.

During his imprisonment, Borthis took hius step towards the light side. Sometimg in 5 ABY, a year after the Galactic Empire was falling, a a novice Jedi named Kyle Katarn fought against Jerec, who had reached incredible heights of power by basking the Force Prison in its aura. However, for all his power, he was defeated in combat by Kyle Katarn, who fulfilled an ancient prophecy, regarding freeing the Valley's trapped Jedi and Sith spirits.
