In the final year of the Clone Wars, Galen joined the Delegation of 2000 when he felt concerned that Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine's continued usage of emergency powers, and feared for the future of democracy in the Republic. After the Republic was reformed into the Galactic Empire by Emperor Palpatine, Derlin refused to serve within the Imperial Senate and immediately chose to resigned his post and withdrew from politics. He returned to his homeworld hoping to escape the Empire's corruption. However, his peace did not last long when Imperial operatives assassinated Derlin to demonstrate the defiance of Palpatine. After his death, Derlin's son, Bren Derlin, went on to become an important military and intelligence officer in the Rebel Alliance and later the New Galactic Republic during the First Galactic Civil War.
