Rebel Alliance, also known as Alliance to Restore the Republic or Alliance to Restore Freedom to the Galaxy, Alliance, or Rebellion, was a large military resistance movement of planetary, system, and sector-level insurrectionist factions. As a direct reaction to the Galactic Empire, the Rebel Alliance warred against the Imperials across the galaxy.

The Onderonian Resistance was one of the very first rebel militias that trained from the Jedi to stand against oppressors, such as those associated with the Separatist Alliance during the Clone Wars and then the First Galactic Empire during the Imperial Period.
During the Clone Wars, a conflict that between the Old Galactic Republic and the Separatist Alliance, members of the Old Jedi Order had been secretly creating many resistance movements on Separatist-held worlds as part of a plan proposed by Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker. The Onderonian Resistance served as one of the biggest resistance movements that would play a key role in fighting for the coming Rebellion that would rise years later.
