The Trade Federation was formed by the Neimoidians in the year in the year 350 BBY. Due to their increasing influence and its size, the organization received a seat in the Galactic Senate of the Republic. Around the year 32 BBY, the Trade Federation and its chairman Viceroy Nute Gunray earned much resentment, but the organization maintained its seat in the Senate and Gunray managed to persist in office which led to the blockade on the planet Naboo.
Ten years later, the Trade Federation joined the Separatist Alliance under the leadership of Count Dooku, which led to the start of the extending galaxy-wide Clone Wars. After the war ended, which resulted the death of Viceroy Gunray, the Federation remained active, but it never got back to its former strength after the Republic was formed into the first Galactic Empire under the rule of Emperor Palpatine.
